La Laguna, the first and most ancient city of Tenerife is located in a extense zone at the north-east of the Island, from the laurislva and pine trees forest, until the sea level.

It was founded by Alonso Fernandez de Lugo at the end of fifteen century, when not even the conquest of the island by the spaniards had finished. It was the capital of the Tenerife for more than three centuries, and headquorters of Cabildo (island goverment).

It is located in a crossroad of important communications from the prehispanic times. La Laguna has been an important place for the development of Tenerife. Its streets and the beauty of their old canarian houses reflect its bright past, and it is a must for all those visitors that come to Tenerife not only looking for sun and beach, but also for knowing the History, its art, its handcrafts, and traditions.

La Laguna is also the place for La Laguna University, with more than 20.000 students, and the Instituto Astrofísico de Canarias (IAC).
